Talked to Two More Witnesses Today
by new light init was the same booth as last week, with two different witnesses.
once again, i printed off the list of false prophecy quotes and walked up to them.
i asked if they were aware of the organization's history of unrealized predictions.

Thanks for talking with me about this. One thing that stood out was the assumption they both had that I was hateful. Nothing in our conversation even remotely suggested me being this way, but the presupposition that "apostates" are full of hate was palpable. They both expressed feeling sorry for me and my pitiable condition. The older one, out of nowhere, said "I don't judge you" after all the evidence aginst the JWs had been laid out. These witness shells are tough to crack.

It was the same booth as last week, with two different witnesses. Once again, I printed off the list of false prophecy quotes and walked up to them. I asked if they were aware of the organization's history of unrealized predictions. She literally said that she would read the list, but it would not change her viewpoint as "the light gets brighter." I explained how the organization manipulates and lies, how they blame the rank and file for setting dates, and a little more. Once again, they were very nice, thanking me for taking the time to do this. It was clear that they want the thing to be true so badly that no amount of fact will change anything. Critical thinking is simply not in their toolbox.
At one point, I was asking why if JWs have the truth, then why is opposing literature so feared. Would not truth stand up to that with ease? Shouldn't a person make a fully informed decision? Right when I said that getting caught reading such things would result in being shunned, the older lady of the two, who was about 70, said she thought that was not the case. I looked at them and said we all know that is not true, I have seen it myself, you would be kicked out, etc. She stuck to it. I asked how long she has been a member and she said "I was baptized in 2006." I said "Well you have a lot to learn because people do get shunned for questioning too much" as nicely as possible. Of the two, she seemed to be the most lucid and it seemed like she at least learned something new from our conversation. I hope they read the list. I used up the last of my printing allowance making it.

Are you an "out of the closet" atheist?
by rebel8 ini'm atheist and not ashamed of it.
however, it is so politically incorrect, especially where i live.
i have a legitimate concern that being out of the closet too much will hurt my career or neighborly relations--i know for a fact it probably would.. i'm really cautious about who i tell.. how about you?

From time to time I publically express my disdain for organized religion and the "holy books." I tend not to trampled on pure belief in God, because that is so subjective and my disbelief is simply based on lack of evidence.

Finally Gave My First Anti-Witness After 11 Years
by new light inhello one and all.. the local jws had a booth set up at my university today and something just came over me.
i went to a computer, found a list of failed prophecies, printed and stapled it, and walked over to the middle aged woman and the 10-ish years old girl.
the woman said "if you are interested in anything, take it for free.

Thank you all so much for the kind words. Your comments help me to be sure that I did the right thing. She asked why I was telling her these things and I said I do not want to burst anyone's bubble. That is what has been keeping me quiet these 11 years. I told her I have felt this way for years and this is the first time I have ever done this. I just hate the fact that if she believes me then she loses her beliefs and who knows what else. But for all I know she is single or, better yet, married to a worldly man and the information will make her marriage come back together. Very importantly, the little girl was right there the whole time. She heard every word. I get a little emotional when I think of the possibilities.

Hello one and all.
The local JWs had a booth set up at my university today and something just came over me. I went to a computer, found a list of failed prophecies, printed and stapled it, and walked over to the middle aged woman and the 10-ish years old girl. The woman said "If you are interested in anything, take it for free." I took a second to browse and then asked "Are you aware of your organization's 100+ year history of failed prophecies?" She said she was aware of some of it, but that really seemed like a way of diffusing the situation without giving the apostate any fuel. I showed her the multi-page list and though she clearly had a set of ready-made defenses, she let me say my piece. Love and empathy were basically pouring out of my face while I told her that I was born into a 4th generation of witnesses, that leaving was the best thing I ever did, that the GB tells the flock what to think, and that the organization is run on lies and manipulation. She thanked me somewhat sincerely. I think she knew I was coming from an honest place and I was trying to help her and the little girl. I left her with the list. A half hour later, I passed her booth on the way out of the building and our eyes met and we both smiled. Her facial expression before the eye contact was one of reflectiveness. Something may have gotten through.

Do you believe that we are living in the last days, and why?
by new light init has been a long time.. thanks to jw.org, i was reading some jw material (what does the bible teach i believe).
it was the first time reading a "book study" book in many years and i was blown away by the controlling, cultish writing.
this question especially struck me as manipulative: do you believe that we are living in the last days, and why?.

No, based on your response, you did not understand the intent of the post, Prologos. You are now trying to hijack someone else's thread to suit your own purpose and I do not appreciate it.
